VALITOX
a test for a near future
VALITOX is a new method of analysing toxicity, realised within the framework of our In Vitro Veritas demonstration. It has been identified by Professor Jean-François Narbonne, a well-known French toxicologist interested in innovative procedures.
VALITOX enables us to carry out an initial demonstration: we have developed simple methods that are offered at no cost. The methods are quantitative and can be realised in real time, directly onto culture plates.
The models used are human cells in culture since they are intended to be used for humans. Early tests have proved to be positive, so our next aim is to ensure predictability. To confirm the test’s efficiency it must be reproducible on a wide range of molecules. VALITOX will then be included in the French Validation Programme, which is one of the few official steps in France towards the substitution of animal tests by an alternative programme on reconstituted organs.
VALITOX provides an opportunity to promote modern In Vitro biological methods for the benefit of all, for our health and that of the environment, for both animals and the planet. Indeed, it is vital that tests like VALITOX become validated. The test needs to be integrated with a battery of tests that are likely to replace animal testing within the framework of the European Programme known as REACH[1]. Substitution will only be achieved if we have a properly integrated battery of tests.
As announced in our last Newsletter, registration of molecules for REACH will begin in 2008. If this does not happen, millions of lives will be sacrificed for nothing. Obsolete tests on animals will continue to be used to determine the toxicity of chemical products. An important opportunity will be lost or delayed.
Several non-profit associations have decided to participate and others are showing an interest in VALITOX, but the big question is whether we can gather the necessary financial support for this vital project in time ?
Time is running out and we rely on the solidarity of all !
All donations, no matter how modest, will help to reach our goal of health and safety for humans and animals alike.
We thank you in advance for your generosity in supporting modern ethical and research-based techniques, techniques that do not involve animals.
